Atkins Investment Group & Paul Scholar
"My story's a bit unique – I didn’t necessarily view college as a direct avenue to get a job. My dad owns our family business, so I've never felt that pressure. But I did explore other avenues while I was here, and I can confidently say that Paul College has given me the resources to help me be successful in my career.
I was a little scared coming in, but the Paul Scholars program allowed me to feel comfortable and have a group of friends right off the bat. It’s funny to think back and realize I’ve known my current friends since the first day of classes. Ultimately it was a great way to meet like-minded people.
I’m really going to miss the environment here. There are over 10,000 people at UNH, all at completely different stages in their life. The friends I’ve made... It's so cliche, but I know I will have them for life. We’ve been through four years of fun, stress. Lots of ups and downs. And we've managed to make really great memories together.
I was always interested in stocks, so when I found out about Atkins Investment Group it was very appealing. Even though I’m not going into the financial industry, Atkins gave me the resources to be able to present in front of a group in a professional manner. I'll always carry that with me. Paul has a lot of great experiential learning opportunities, so I'd definitely tell an incoming student to check them out.
I did actually have one internship – it was a really great experience, and ultimately taught me that the corporate world isn’t for me. I don't like the idea of doing the same thing every day, and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to come to this realization. Every day at the family business is different: being out in the field or in the office, and ultimately surrounded by great people.
I'll be leaving Paul with the confidence to succeed. College is an opportunity to learn more about yourself. Over these four years I’ve been able to really figure out what I want in my future. And I am where I am today, and who I am today, because of my time here."
