SXSW Conference: First Thoughts

It’s Day 1 of SXSW for us here in Austin, TX, and we love it!

SXSW (South by Southwest) is an annual conference featuring numerous festivals and tracks, including music, film, tech, education, creative industries, and more. Professionals have a chance to network and learn from leaders in different fields and share innovative ideas while also enjoying things like concerts, screenings, gaming events, workshops, and product exhibitions.

Center for Business Analytics aims to expand the network system and connect industry leaders across the US to our students and each other. This conference is an excellent opportunity to spread the word about the Center, and we are excited to be a part of it.

Many fascinating events are offered as a part of numerous tracks. We started the day by attending the Digital Media Licensing Association Showcase and met innovative members of this community. The use of AI in media licensing, ways to increase revenue while protecting copyrighted work, and new content creation tools are just a few of the highlighted topics discussed. We met Joe Naylor, Founder and CEO of ImageRights, who told us more about the company. ImageRights provides AI-driven intelligent Internet search and copyright enforcement services to media companies worldwide enabling them to maximize control and monetization of their intellectual property.

Our team also had a chance to attend The Lush House pop-up and hear from Chief Digital Officer at Lush, Jack Constantine. He talked about the company’s decision to walk off the Meta platforms and their plans to drive customers directly to their website, app, and stores. We found it interesting how the company aims to reduce Big Tech spending while sharing enthusiasm about the future of technology. Lots of food for thought there!

After that, we visited a networking event for professionals in Data Science and Analytics, where we made some exciting connections with people in healthcare, tech and data analytics industries.

Sharing the engagement opportunities, efforts of our student interns and UNH colleagues, and our influence on real businesses has been a rewarding experience. We look forward to making more impactful connections during the SXSW event!
