FTMBA Students Explore Global Business and Culture in Panama

In a dynamic display of global business immersion, Paul College’s full-time MBA students recently completed their 2025 International Residency in Ciudad de Panamá, Panama, from March 15-22.
This week-long journey blended academic rigor with practical business exposure and vibrant cultural exploration.
The residency began with an insightful economic and political overview of Panama by Glenn Tjon, laying the groundwork for an in-depth look at the country’s vital role in global trade. Students visited industry leaders like Maersk and DHL, gaining valuable perspectives on logistics and supply chain management, and examined how Estée Lauder harnesses AI and data analytics for strategic decision-making. A midweek highlight was a visit to the iconic Panama Canal and Hutchison Ports, offering a firsthand view of Panama’s critical place in the global economy—particularly timely given today’s geopolitical challenges.
Central to the trip was the students’ work with local startups MUVER and Sanate. Through hands-on consulting projects initiated before the trip and refined on-site, students applied their MBA expertise to real-world issues.
The residency wrapped up with presentations to the startup founders, who praised the students’ hard work and excellent insights.
Beyond business, the trip immersed students in Panama’s rich culture. They traveled by boat into the rainforest to meet the indigenous Emberá community, explored the historic streets of Panama’s old town, and enjoyed the city’s diverse cuisine. A student-organized yacht tour on Thursday night offered breathtaking views of the Panama City skyline and a memorable bonding experience on the Pacific Ocean.
This international residency, a key part of ADMN 840: International Business, was led by Professors Jun Li and Ermira Zifla, with steadfast support from the Graduate Program Office and the Dean’s Office. Special thanks go to Emma Pennewell, Hayley A., Annie Nevells, and Deans— your contributions were essential to this trip’s success.
